Here I am back in cold, cold CanadaLand with many updates coming your way. There’s really only one place to start; the Haute Macabre Induced Epidemics show. The turn out was really overwhelming and a very big surprise to all those involved. I would say the space could hold about 20 people comfortably but if I had to guess over 100 turned up and probably even more. [A little secret - I am really bad at estimating numbers/volume and distance.]
A noteworthy difference to any gallery opening I’ve attended before was the huge variance in the types of people in attendance. The walls were literally crammed with some of the best creepy/dark art I’ve seen in recent years and it was so good to see how others are pushing what is expected from artists. I was honestly so humbled to be on the walls with everyone involved. Unfortunately the gallery was simply far too crowded to get good photos of everyone’s work, but I do have a nice little sampling below.
You might be able to tell from the progression of the photos that I was handed a few too many glasses of wine that night. I’m not a big drinker, and it’s rare that I drink enough to feel intoxicated but I’m also British and to refuse an offering is practically unheard of; it’s gotten me into trouble several times at social events. I’m also the kind of person to hang around in the background and I am very bad at introducing myself to people. But, I wanted to thank those that managed to hunt me out of the crowd and have a little chat. Although, I did hear from a couple of people that they were sad to have not seen me there – I was there, I was probably just tucked away in a corner somewhere quietly enjoying the buzz from the crowd [not the wine - I know what you're thinking!].
My framed painting [Almost Midnight] is available for US$650 by contacting the Museum of Death on 1 (323) 466-8011
Enjoy, and I apologise in advance for the progressive blurriness…

This is just a wee sketch I did quickly in a free half hour last night. I’d heard about artist trading cards and the idea really struck me as an interesting format to work with. Sometimes a little challenge like a tiny format or unusual ratio can make all the difference in creating something new. I also drew a few more that were a lot better than this one earlier in the week. I was just going to post this to twitter but then I really liked how the afternoon light fell across my tablet. I’ll post the others next week after they’ve arrived at their perspective homes safely and the surprise will no longer be ruined.
Oh and here’s a couple of my weapons since I was so fascinated with today’s low-in-the-sky winter sun. This time of year is my favourite. I was telling a dear friend this morning that in Vancouver all you have to do is make it through the rainiest month of November and December and January are the most beautiful months of the entire year. The west coast of Canada really lends itself to winter with it’s array of different trees from hundreds of evergreens to the arbutus trees. Add to that the mountains buried in snow directly behind the beautiful downtown skyline it’s a wonder to behold. You’d really have to visit Vancouver to see it for yourself. I’m still yet to take a photo that really depicts it in all its glory.
I’m off track here, where was I again?
Here’s another wee card that you can get a peek at for now. More next week! I board my flight for California tomorrow. New adventures, here I come! Including, my first Amtrak experience from LA->San Fransisco. I’m so very looking forward to being on a train for the first time in over two years. I miss train journeys more than anything else from my homeland. This will be a long one at 12 hours; plenty of time for drawing and reading and some strangely needed downtime.

Hopefully you’re not too tired of seeing this piece yet, because I have a few photos for you as promised! When I went to pick out the moulding for this frame my first pick turned out to be out of stock at the supplier, so I had to go back that evening and pick out a few more options. Well, this was my (second) first choice and I have to say that I love it a lot more than what I first went with and it was a moulding I’d missed the first time. I have to say it suits the piece so much more. I’ll just chalk this one up to the universe knowing way more than I do about these things.
I’ve learned a lot producing this piece, and hopefully it’s going to take me into the future with a few more skills under my hat. I think I might even want to learn framing myself since I think that could be so rewarding. One of my favourite art supply shops in town actually has framing “stations” where they order the pieces for you and are on hand should you get stuck but you do it all yourself. Since this piece was kind of a time crunch situation and I knew it had to be shipped all the way down the left coast I wanted to make sure that the framing was sturdy and professional, so the only option was really to go with a good framers. I couldn’t be more pleased with how it all turned out in the end. Now I just have to keep my fingers crossed for the next week hoping that UPS don’t drop the ball on this one and it makes it in one piece on time!
If you’re in LA/Hollywood on the 5th December please do join us at the Chaos Gallery between 8pm-11pm and take a look at all of the other amazing pieces on display. There’s going to be some fantastic art to be seen (and collected, since I think most of the artists are selling their pieces).
Address: 6031 Hollywood Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90028
(24×24″ [25x25" framed])
I think my favourite part (and the most difficult) is definitely the raven skeleton; it’s inspired me to do more anatomy/skeleton pieces.

Hi all!
This weekend I discovered that shipping for the Christmas/Holiday cards is cheaper than for the prints, so I’ve adjusted the price of the packs to account for that. They’re now just $6.50* each pack with the usual shipping. This means that if you order more than one pack you’ll actually be getting a wee discount!
Head over to the shop. Please order before December 1st for guaranteed delivery before the holidays.
Thanks!
*They were $10 per pack. Anyone that already ordered will be receiving a refund for the difference.
