Blackwater Returns

I was just pulling up a few photos for my good friend GoGo Blackwater for a magazine submission. I thought I’d post a couple of them here since it’s been a while since I’ve posted any recent portraits. I just love taking her photo, sometimes taking a friend’s portrait has something extra special, y’know?

12 hours, 12 themes, 12 exposures

. The day was to go like this: Arrive at Blenz in Yaletown between 7-8am on Sunday 12th September; bring a 35mm film camera of any kind, some supplies and any other equipment that might be needed for the day. Every hour on the hour there’s a new theme drawn, it’s up to the individual to interpret the theme and go out and take just one shot for that theme. Every theme has to be shot in order on the 12 exposure roll of film provided for the entry to qualify. Every roll of film has to be handed in at 8pm completed. Other than that there were very few other rules or guidelines.

Tentacles in Pots

Product photography has shifted in the past few years with more being photographed in appropriate surroundings with a creative twist that was sometimes passed up in order to get a crystal clear and detailed photo.

On the Periphery

I like to pretend the world is my personal cinema and the only way to do that is to walk the sidelines.

When 80s Punk hypnotised me

Admittedly I was a bit too young for 80s punk the first time around. That didn’t stop me falling in love with the whole concept when I was in my teens. Back then I’d have never owned up to the fact that what first snared me was the photos. You see, I was young, I was trying to fit in and I was in a band. We were doing it for the music. Or so I told everyone. Now, I can’t lie, I idolised the music and still do to a certain extent. Big Black, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, Minutemen, Talking Heads, New York Dolls, Black Flag, Minor Threat… the list could go on and on. I’m not here to list my early music influences, though…
