Last weekend was probably one of the busiest of my life, but also probably the very definition of the word fun. Here in Columbus OH the downtown Hyatt hotel was host to HellCity tattoo festival. I was lucky enough to be helping out my good friends Alissa Brunelli and Durb Morrison with the coverage for the weekend. My role was fairly minor, but a great experience for me.
At the festival was the Innerstate art experiment hosted by Guy and Michelle Aitchison. Innerstate was an art jam of a whole new kind. By the end of the weekend there were over 45 artists working in all kinds of media to create some of the most beautiful art inspired by tattoos and life that I may have ever seen. I had the perfect point of view to watch the whole unfolding of the pieces as one of the crew photographers. It was a huge honour to be a part of the whole show and the main room looked like a spaceship (could I have been any happier with my surroundings? Probably not).
Of course I only have a handful of photos for you to see right now, but over the next few weeks I hope to have more and more excerpts to show you. I’ll be bringing you news of my very own HellCity site gallery and the book of Innerstate that Guy and Michelle will be putting together.
For the photography nerds out there, my 85mm rarely left the camera the whole show.
